About Joe

This is Joe, a very special 3 year old black lab who is looking for his forever home. Joe came in after he unfortunately pulled over his elderly owner, he had never left the property he grew up in so everything in the world is brand new and exciting for him!
We are looking for a child free home for Joe, this beautiful boy has no malice in him whatsoever and is the most lovely lad, but we feel he needs a home without small noisy kids. Teenaged and visiting older children would be absolutely fine though. He is a very strong dog so will need an active, fit family who can give him lovely long daily walks.
Joe is now neutered and chipped, he will need to return to Bright Side vets for a second vaccination in a few weeks.
His adoption donation is £200.

Notes from Joes foster

Joe is a handsome black Labrador who is a nervous and shy boy, once he gains your trust is loving and affectionate. He responds very well to positive reinforcement and praise really helps him feel more confident. He responds well to being called Joe-Joe as he can get confused with the name Joe as it sounds like no!
He will ideally be the only dog so he can get all the attention he deserves or could live with a quiet, calm dog.
He is good with other dogs and has never lived with cats but hasn't shown any interest when he has seen them on walks. He travels ok in a car but does show signs of stress as he will over salivate.
He is toilet trained and ok to be left for a short time. This may be built up once he has more confidence so please bare this in mind post covid.
He has struggled with walking on laminate/wood/tiled floor so owner would need to work on this. The fosters have this flooring downstairs but have managed to gain joes confidence to walk on part of the floor with removing rugs put down in part but will need further help to feel fully confident walking on this type of flooring, but has shown progress.
He has started his adventures in the big wide world with his fosters and is gaining confidence. He can be startled easily but this has reduced once he knows where the noise is coming from. He doesn't like the hoover and finds this scary if in same room but is ok if he is not in the room when it's on.
He LOVES his walks and is genuinely curious of new sounds, smells and sights, Joe will need continued exposure to further increase his confidence outside with unfamiliar noises, people and dogs. He is on a weight plan and has already lost some weight and getting fitter on his walks. His owners would need to continue helping him get to an ideal weight and he will need a daily walk as he enjoys it so much and will help him become healthier with regular exercise.
On walks he is overstimulated with all the new smells, noises and sights! He pulls so will need a strong owner to work on his lead walking after some time gaining further confidence with the big wide world. His fosters have been using double leads as he does jay walk to make sure he doesn't miss any smells! He loves food although to begin with may appear as though he doesn't but this isn't the real Joe and he does love food!
His 2nd favourite thing is to give love and affection, once he has your trust he will give this in abundance. His 3rd most enjoyable thing is to sleep and relax! He also enjoys playing with balls but not keen on dog play as he still finds this a bit scary.
He will make the most loving dog but will need lots of time and patience and taking things at his pace as not to overwhelm him.
